Jake Paul opened as betting favorite over Anderson Silva, but that quickly changed

Soon after the news broke that YouTube creator turned professional boxer Jake Paul would boxing former UFC champion Anderson Silva, oddsmakers quickly posted the betting lines.

Paul (5-0) opened as the betting favorite. He was listed as high as a -180 favorite on BetOnline. Silva (3-1, boxing) opened as the underdog at +150.

After the betting lines were posted, money quickly began to pour in moving the odds in Silva’s favor. Silva went from a +150 underdog to the betting favorite at -135. Paul moved from a -180 favorite to a +105 underdog on SportsBetting.

Paul’s last three boxing matches have been against former UFC fighters. He knocked out Ben Askren in under two minutes in April 2021. In his next outing, he defeated former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley by split decision. He knocked Woodley out in the rematch this past December.

Silva, 47, transitioned to boxing after retiring from mixed martial arts in 2021. He defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. by split decision in June 21 in his first boxing match post-UFC career. In his next match, the Brazilian knocked out former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in 82 seconds. Silva holds the record for the longest win streak in UFC history with 16 consecutive victories.
