Against the odds, Sean O’Malley got his hand raised against Petr Yan.
The rising UFC star beat Yan (16-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC) by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) on the main card of UFC 280, which took place Saturday at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
O’Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) and Yan went toe to toe in an all-out war that had fans cheering all the way through. In the end, many thought the former champion had done enough to win and were surprised to see O’Malley get the nod from the judges.
