Anthony Smith fired back at Conor McGregor following Twitter rant: ‘Different rules apply to him’

Did you have a feud between Conor McGregor and Anthony Smith on your MMA bingo card?

It’s a rivalry we didn’t see coming but aren’t exactly upset it’s happening either.

Everything stemmed from comments Smith made while on the Believe You Me podcast with Michael Bisping. Essentially Smith said it bothered him that McGregor was able to hop in and out of the USADA testing pool while other fighters don’t have that luxury. And he’s not wrong.

But McGregor (obviously) didn’t take those comments kindly and promptly went on one of his epic Twitter rants calling Smith a “rat” and a “loser.”

Smith has since responded to those comments, doubling down on what he originally said.

“If there’s something out there that could help me heal that I could do legally, I totally would, because I would heal a lot faster,” Smith said on the “Believe You Me” podcast. “But it’s not even his reasoning that I’m questioning.”

He went on to say, “What bugs me is that guys like Anderson [Silva] and guys like Chris Weidman and myself have had lots of bad injuries, and we didn’t have the ability to just step out of the USADA pool, get yourself healed, and then come back with no repercussions.”

He also pointed out that when it comes to rules, they tend to not apply to McGregor. Another point that has time and again proven to be correct.

“Did he break any rules? You’re [Bisping] the one who played devil’s advocate. You said ‘technically’ he’s not breaking any rules,” Smith said. “That’s because different rules apply to him. I don’t have that capability, or at least I didn’t think.”
