Nate ‘The Train’ Landwehr Responds To Defeat At The Hands Of Dan Ige At UFC 289

Nate Landwehr has provided an update for fans following his decision loss to Dan Ige on the main card of last weekend’s UFC 289.

The featherweight clash between “The Train” and Ige looked to be a surefire Fight of the Night contender on paper, and although Landwehr gave a good account of himself he struggled to handle the power in the hands of his Hawaiian opponent.

Ige walked away with a unanimous decision that ended Landwehr’s three-fight win streak, but even after the loss the 35-year-old appears to still be in good spirits.

“Saturday night didn’t go the way I planned…Felt like it was close until it wasn’t. Ain’t no shame in my game man, can’t be ashamed. I don’t feel bad about it at all. Sh*t, it is what it is. I’m gonna bounce back.”

Nate Landwehr’s Popularity Likely Unaffected By UFC 289 Loss

Landwehr has quickly established himself as a fan favorite during his seven-fight run with the UFC, and even with a loss his place on the main card of a UFC PPV was a significant milestone in his fighting career.

“The Train” made his pro MMA debut in 2012 and eventually joined Russian promotion M-1 Challenge in 2017, where he went 5-0 with three finishes and two defenses of the organization’s featherweight title. Landwehr debuted for the UFC in 2020 and went 1-2 through his first three fights, but a submission win over Ľudovít Klein kicked off what turned into a three-fight winning streak.

The matchup with the #13-ranked Ige represented a significant step up in competition for Landwehr and a chance for him to break into the featherweight Top 15, but even in defeat fans will no doubt be looking forward to the next time “The Train” steps into the Octagon.
