Check out this week’s “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly live show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts. • Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannu took a chance when he left the promotion, but it looks like it will pay off now that he’s booked a boxing match against Tyson Fury. We react to the matchup almost two years in the making.
• UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill ruptured his Achilles tendon this past week. With a lengthy rehab in front of him, he vacated his belt. When he won it, it was up for grabs from an injury vacancy. Now he’ll be the reason it is again. Is this the right move, or should the UFC have done an interim title?
• Although it was huge news when it was announced, the buzz around the Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz boxing match seems to have been dialed way back. In fact, Paul even has criticized Diaz for not doing enough promotion. Couple that with Diaz’s worry that he’ll be drug tested in Texas, and is this thing turning into a bust?
• Mayra Bueno Silva upset former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm with a second-round submission in the UFC on ESPN 49 main event. Now she wants a shot at the 135-pound title that was vacated when dual champ Amanda Nunes retired in June. Is she one of the two who should fight for the belt, or is there a stronger candidate?
• For the first time, SBC has a guest panelist this week: Xtreme Couture head coach Nicksick. We’ll hit him up on topics like Marcin Tybura vs. Tom Aspinall, Ngannou-Fury, Kevin Lee’s retirement and more.
