Cory Sandhagen vs. Rob Font Set For Catchweight Bout To Headline UFC Fight Night Nashville

Rob Font will fill in for the injured Umar Nurmagomedov to face Cory Sandhagen at UFC Nashville on August 5th.

ESPN‘s Marc Raimondi was the first to report the news of Font’s fill. The fight will remain five rounds at an undisclosed catchweight.

Font was supposed to face Song Yadong at UFC 292 next month before Yadong reportedly withdrew, according to MMA Junkie‘s Nolan King. While Font won’t get the opportunity to fight in front of the hometown fans in Boston, he’ll get the next best thing in the form of a five-round main event.

Font most recently defeated Adrian Yanez at UFC 287 earlier this year to get back on track in the bantamweight title picture. Before that, he lost back-to-back fights to Marlon Vera and José Aldo.

Sandhagen could potentially earn the next bantamweight title shot with a win in Nashville. UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling will face Sean O’Malley for the belt to top off UFC 292.

Sandhagen has won back-to-back fights over Yadong and Vera over the past year. He’s bounced back in a big way since close losses to Petr Yan and TJ Dillashaw.

The Sandhagen vs. Font main event saves an intriguing card in Nashville. The co-main event features a strawweight matchup between former UFC champion Jéssica Andrade and Tatiana Suarez.
