Dana White confirms Conor McGregor will fight Michael Chandler in UFC return

UFC President Dana White confirmed that former two-division champion Conor McGregor is ready to fight and his opponent will be Michael Chandler.

Conor McGregor threw Michael Chandler fight into question

McGregor casted doubt on him fighting Chandler in a recent social media post, saying he doesn’t think the fight promotion is interested in that match-up anymore.

“I’ll do it if they want, no prob. I don’t think they want him no more tho. There’s loads of juicy fights around and my return date is my return date. I never gave a f**k about who it was. Ever. I’ll fight anyone. I’ll even fly them to me, ask malinaggi. Flown in and bet around,” McGregor tweeted on Aug. 7 before deleting it.

White put those doubts to rest when speaking to the media during the Dana White Contender’s Series Post-Fight Press Conference on Tuesday.

“I talked to Conor. It was either yesterday or the day before. And yeah, he’s ready to fight. I just said, listen, get in shape, and let’s figure this out. Yeah, he’s fighting Chandler. Conor likes to f**k with everybody. You know what I mean? Especially his opponent or possible opponents,” White said, apparently referring to McGregor’s constant callouts of other fighters, such as Justin Gaethje.

That callout came after McGregor watched Gaethje knock out Dustin Poirier to capture the UFC’s BMF belt at UFC 291. McGregor last fought at UFC 264 in July 2021 losing the trilogy bout against Poirier after suffering a broken leg at the end of the first round.

His return date is uncertain because he hasn’t re-entered the USADA testing pool. A fighter must be in the USADA testing pool with clean results for six months before competing.
