Former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate last fought in July 22, losing to Lauren Murphy in her flyweight debut. On Dec. 2, Tate (19-9) returns to the bantamweight division at UFC Fight Night 233 in Austin, Texas against Julia Avila (9-2).
Tate won the women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 196, defeating Holly Holm via submission back in March 2016. After losing her next two fights to Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington, Tate retired from fighting.
Tate returned to the Octagon in July 2021, defeating Marion Reneau by TKO. In her time away from fighting, “Cupcake” gave birth to two children.
The 37-year old has lost her last two fights and is desperate need of a win. She hopes to get back in the win column in December against Avila. On Tuesday, Tate posted photos to social media of her transformation as she prepares for UFC Fight Night 233.
“Getting to be that lean mean fighting machine kinda cupcake. Next fight Dec 2nd in Austin TX,” she wrote.

UFC Fight Night 233 takes place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas and is expected to be headlined by a middleweight bout between fourth-ranked Jared Cannonier and seventh-ranked Roman Dolidze. The event will mark the fifth time the UFC has hosted an event in Austin.
