Sean Strickland was booted from gym, claims Dan Henderson

Sean Strickland is known for being outspoken and having no filter, whether in real life or on social media, but it has caused him problems throughout his career.

The newly crowned middleweight titleholder has come a long way since his younger, inconsistent days inside the octagon. Despite evolving from a hungry prospect to the champion of the world, Strickland remains his boisterous self, which was enough to remove him from one of his gyms.

According to MMA legend Dan Henderson, ‘Tarzan’ was a disrupting member of the Team Quest group, forcing him to be removed from the gym during his early days in the sport. The knockout artist appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and revealed why the UFC star was kicked from his gym.

“He was at my gym for like three years, yeah. We kinda had to let him go.” Said Henderson. “He just kind of gets too involved talking sh*t about people. I liked him in the gym, I liked him there, he was a great training partner. You need at least one guy in your gym that does that and goes hard and makes everybody else go hard when they’re going against him, so I liked it.”

“He was just too disrespectful to teammates and stuff… I always rooted for him when he left, you know? It wasn’t like, ‘I hope that guy…’ You know? No, I always rooted for him. I thought he had a ton of potential.”

Strickland’s mouth has gotten him into trouble on numerous occasions and some were angling for the fighter to be ‘canceled’ for views he has shared on social media. While many dislike the brawler for his comments, his personality has attracted a diehard selection of fans that seemingly grows every time he appears behind a camera.

What’s next for Sean Strickland?

After shocking the world and capturing middleweight gold, there was a general belief that Israel Adesanya would get an immediate rematch. With recent news circulating suggesting ‘The Last Stylebender’ will be taking an extended hiatus from competing, this leaves the door open for another contender.

Dricus du Plessis is within touching distance of a shot and would have likely been the man to step in against Adesanya if he wasn’t nursing an injury at UFC 293.

One man who is desperate to get his chance to become a UFC champion is Khamzat Chimaev. ‘Borz’ had to adjust in his short-notice victory over former welterweight king Kamaru Usman and believes he should be next, though Strickland insists that he needs to do more before being awarded a shot at his throne.
