The drama surrounding Ian Garry’s removal from UK gym Team Renegade continues as Garry blames Edwards’ coach for pushing him out.

Ian Garry may be “The Future,” but that future doesn’t involve Birmingham’s Team Renegade any more.

Garry recently revealed that he was no longer welcome there because it’s also the home of current UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. That’s a polite and condensed version of Ian’s telling, which also included shots at Edwards’ “doubts and insecurities.”

Edwards responded by claiming Garry had been kicked out of multiple gyms, and also claimed he’d sent Garry to the hospital in past spars. Now Garry is clapping back.

“Too many people who’ve never been on the mats with me, some who’ve never even met me, are talking when they don’t know s—,” he wrote on Instagram. “Here’s some questions answered.

“No, I was not thrown out of Leon Edwards’ gym,” he said in a video. “I was politely asked not to return because we are potentially on a collision path. So the two owners of the gym Renegade, Tom and Ash, both of which I get along with. Both of which said it was a privilege to work with me and that they really enjoy me being on the mats.

“Leon’s head coach was the one who has an issue, and was the one who asked me not to come back,” he continued. “Because he has his own best fighters, his own fighter’s interests at heart. He was the one who had an issue, and he does not own the gym. I don’t go up there because of Leon. I go up to Renegade because of Henry Cleminson and Tom Breese.”

“I go to Birmingham because of a striking coach outside of Renegade, Henry Cleminson, and because of Tom Breese, the owner of Renegade. I think he’s a phenomenal jiu jitsu grappler, and to learn from him, that’s a privilege.”

It’s apparently a privilege that Garry will no longer have so long as Leon Edwards’ coach has his way.

For now, the No. 10 ranked Garry has a fight with No. 8 ranked Vicente Luque at UFC 296 on December 16th to look forward to.
