Much has been said about the way Colby Covington talks trash to his opponents before a fight, but to the welterweight contender it’s all part of his “Chaos” persona.

Covington’s brash antics were on full display again this week as he gears up for a title fight with UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards later tonight (Sat., Dec. 16, 2023) at UFC 296 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was never more true than when Covington brought up Edwards’ deceased father during Thursday’s pre-fight press conference (watch HERE).

While fighters and fans are used to hearing Covington say some pretty insensitive things most were shocked to see him bring up Edwards’ dad, who was murdered when he was just 13 years old. It has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth and really put Covington’s head on the chopping block this weekend at UFC 296.

That said, a video clip from a recent episode of UFC 296 “Embedded” shows Covington speaking with Edwards during their final staredown at Friday’s ceremonial weigh ins. The audio isn’t completely clear, but it sounds like Covington tells Edwards he was “in character.”

Check it out below and let us know what you think Covington says:
