VIDEO: Jones Provides Injury Update, Gets Second Surgery

Jon Jones is getting all fixed up while on the sidelines.

The reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion, Jones, was supposed to make his first title defense with his current title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on Nov. 11, 2023. Unfortunately for “Bones,” a torn pectoral muscle forced him from the bout and any foreseeable title tilts in the coming months.

More than just his pec has needed some repairing, however, according to Jones, who took to social media today (Mon., Jan. 8, 2024) to update the world on his current recovery status. The video can be seen in the embedded player above.

“Hey, hey, hey, what’s up, everybody? This is your friend and Heavyweight champion of the world, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones,” Jones said in an Instagram story. “Back out here in California. This time, instead of doing a pec repair, we are working on my left elbow. I’m actually about one hour off the table. We had a two-hour surgery, shaving down some bone spurs.

“Good news is that it’s about a 10-week heal process, and I’m out for months anyway because of this pec surgery, so I just thought I’d kill two birds and get this elbow taken care of once and for all,” he continued. “I appreciate all the support. Your boy is back in the sling. Back on this recovery, still on this recovery journey. Sometimes you have to take a small step back in order to move forward, and I’m patient.”

Despite Tom Aspinall’s newly achieved position as UFC’s interim Heavyweight titleholder, the promotion is still expected to try and rebook Jones vs. Miocic once Jones is healthy and able to return by the tail-end of 2024. Thankfully, the additional surgery doesn’t sound like it will further elongate Jones’ absence as he alluded to.
