Javier Mendez reacts to Khabib Nurmagomedov fighting at UFC 300 rumors

Speculation continues to mount surrounding the UFC 300 pay-per-view and recent rumors have linked Khabib Nurmagomedov with a possible comeback.

Fans have piled a large amount of expectation upon the UFC 300 card and are expecting some big fight announcements ahead of the April 13 event. ‘The Eagle’ is one fighter that’s been hinted for a return and his coach has now spoken out on the rumors.

In a post on social media, American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez reacted to the reports. Although it seemed like the stars were aligning, it looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be competing anytime soon.

“I’m just letting you guys know that, you know, stop all this nonsense regarding Khabib coming back and me and him training,” coach Mendez said in reference to Khabib’s return. “There’s been no such thing happening.”

“We’re not discussing training, we never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said. He’s devoting his time to his family, he’s not working people’s corners, he’s not going to ever fight.”

“To my knowledge, it’s never been spoken about. And to my knowledge, he’s been here the past few days. He just left yesterday from Dubai.”

“And nothing has ever been discussed about fighting. No training, no nothing. We trained together actually, but we’re doing cardio. We weren’t doing any kind of kickboxing, any kind of MMA training whatsoever. So, stop the clickbait.”

Who will headline UFC 300?

With Khabib Nurmagomedov the latest to not be featuring on the UFC 300 card, that leaves the question: who will headline the event?

Rumors of Conor McGregor main eventing on April 13 was put to bed when he announced he would return two months after the PPV in June.

Talks of a Dustin Poirier versus Nate Diaz clash was circulating but that too fell through when ‘The Diamond’ got a huge matchup at UFC 299.

At this time, one title fight has been confirmed for UFC 300. Zhang Weili will put her strawweight belt on the line against fellow countrywoman Yan Xiaonan in the promotion’s first ever China vs. China championship clash.
