UFC 300 results: Alex Pereira ices Jamahal Hill with KO blows after waving off groin shot

Alex Pereira put a very violent bow on UFC 300 to retain his title.

In the main event Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) knocked out Jamahal Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at 3:14 of Round 1 to retain the light heavyweight title.

Pereira waved off referee Herb Dean’s offering to pause the bout due to a groin strike by Hill. Seconds later, Pereira floored Hill with his signature lead left hook. Hill’s eyes rolled back but when he hit the canvas, he defended. Pereira pounced and pounded, however, until the lights went out. As he rose off his downed opponent, Pereira pulled off a “Khaby Lame” celebration.

After the victory during his in-cage interview with Joe Rogan, Pereira expressed interest in a heavyweight bout next.

With the win, Pereira successfully defends the UFC light heavyweight title for the first time and moves to 3-0 in the weight class. Pereira’s lone UFC loss remains his second MMA battle against Israel Adesanya in March 2023..

Hill won the title in January 2023 after Jiri Prochazka’s vacation, but also shortly thereafter vacated due to a torn Achilles tendon sustained in a fighter basketball game. So upon Prochazka’s return, he fought Pereira for the vacant strap, and lost by second-round TKO.  Saturday’s fight was his first bout back from injury and snapped a four-fight winning streak.
