Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling made a successful debut at 145 pounds, capturing a unanimous decision victory over No. 8-ranked contender Calvin Kattar as part of the UFC 300 mega-event last Sat. night (April 13, 2024) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His performance is unlikely to lock up the featherweight title shot he was hoping for, and Sterling already lost faith in a potential Max Holloway fight, but that won’t keep “Funk Master” from his upward trajectory.

“Give me the next best guy,” Sterling (24-4) said at the UFC 300 post-fight press conference. “I’ll take Brian Ortega, respectfully. He’s a guy I got to train with one time, same management, there’s no bad blood or anything like that. We’re both just trying to chase the same thing. It’s not like he’s my main training partner like Merab [Dvalishvili] was. It’s a different situation. I think I beat a guy like him, and I’m undeniable.”

Undeniable and JACKED.

Ortega (16-3, 1 NC), one year younger than Sterling at 33, is a former featherweight title challenger who is coming off third-round submission victory over Top 5 rival Yair Rodriguez at UFC Mexico City just a few months back.

Seems like easy matchmaking.
