UFC 249 ‘Embedded,’ No. 1: Promotion packs up for a unique event

The UFC returns on Saturday after a two-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the organization’s popular “Embedded” series is giving a behind-the-scenes look at the measures being taken to put on an event under unprecedented circumstances.

UFC 249 takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

In the main event, Tony Ferguson (25-3 MMA, 15-1 UFC) meets Justin Gaethje (21-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) for the interim lightweight title. In the co-feature, bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) puts his title on the line for the first time against former divisional kingpin Dominick Cruz (22-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC).

The first episode of “Embedded” follows the big-name stars at the top of the card. Here’s the UFC’s description:

In Las Vegas, Francis Ngannou continues his extended training camp; UFC President Dana White does interviews. Headliner Justin Gaethje truncates his preparation, and opponent Tony Ferguson arrives in Florida for a unique fight week.
