Tony Ferguson isn’t a champ at the moment – but he certainly took his COVID-19 test like one.

Upon arrival at the host hotel for UFC 249 fight week in Jacksonville, Ferguson (25-3 MMA, 15-1 UFC) partook in the promotion’s new pandemic safety protocol. As part of the process, Ferguson was required to take a nasal swab. Later Tuesday, Ferguson posted the video to his social media.

The test is dreaded by many, but Ferguson seemed relatively unfazed throughout the process. Outside of a few coughs upon withdrawal of the swab, Ferguson barely flinched.

The UFC is mandating all UFC 249 fighters and their corners, UFC staff, and media to undergo two tests. The first test is an antibody test, which determines whether a person has ever had COVID-19. The test is basically a finger prick. The second test is a carrier test, which determines if a person has the virus now. That’s the nasal swab, as seen in Ferguson’s video.

In the UFC 249 main, Ferguson takes on Justin Gaethje for the UFC interim lightweight title. The event takes place Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
