KSW 54: Mateusz Gamrot retains lightweight title with dominant decision in Warsaw

Two-division KSW champion Mateusz Gamrot retained his lightweight title and extended his unbeaten record with a strong performance against short-notice replacement Marian Ziolkowski at KSW 54 on Saturday night.

Lightweight and feathweight champ Gamrot (17-0) outmuscled Ziolkowski (21-8-1) throughout the five-round title fight in Warsaw, Poland to maintain his status as KSW’s resident “champ champ” as he dominated the action to earn scores of 50-45, 50-45, 49-46 from the three cageside judges.

The co-main event saw former boxing contender Izu Ugonoh (1-0) make a successful start to his MMA career as the Pole earned a first-round TKO victory due to a leg injury to his opponent Quentin Domingos (5-2) in their heavyweight matchup.

Heavyweights also featured in the preceding bout, as Michal Kita defeated rival Michal Andryszak in a rematch of their 2017 meeting at KSW 39. Back then it was Andryszak (21-9) who picked up the win via first-round submission, but Kita (20-11-1) exacted revenge in the rematch as he crushed his man with uppercuts to score a big win and position him in the mix for a possible shot at reigning heavyweight champion Phil De Fries.

Earlier in the night, polish lightweight Maciej Kazieczko (7-1) extended his winning run to four in a row with a last-gasp TKO finish of Croatian Karlo Caput (8-2), while the two fighting brothers, Lucasz Rajewski (10-6) and Sebastian Rajewski (9-5) both secured decision victories in their respective lightweight matchups.
