UFC 257 video: Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier full fight from original 2014 clash

We’re exactly three weeks out from the UFC 257 rematch between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor, and that means there’s no better time to look back at the first meeting.

Poirier and McGregor are set to run it back in a high stakes lightweight headliner on Jan. 23. The card airs on ESPN+ pay-per-view and takes place at “UFC Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.

The rematch comes together more than six years after the first bout, which went down at UFC 178 in September 2014 and was contested in the featherweight division.

McGregor didn’t have many struggles that night, as he landed a clean shot on Poirier early in the first round that brought his pre-fight prediction of a quick knockout to life.

McGregor’s (21-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) quick victory over Poirier at UFC 178 was the most significant win of his career at the time. It sparked “The Notorious” making a run to become UFC champion at 145 pounds, and encouraged Poirier (26-6 MMA, 18-5 UFC) to make a jump up to lightweight no long after.

Both men have achieved resounding success in the years since, and have evolved greatly as both fighters and men.

They’re now set to clash again at UFC 257, and the result will have major implications on the future for both sides.
