Beneil Dariush had quite the 2020 and he was deservingly rewarded for it.

The UFC lightweight contender notched two of this past year’s best knockouts, one of them in a remarkable comeback sequence against Drakkar Klose at UFC 248.

After getting badly hurt by Klose, Dariush bit down on his mouth piece and swung back. He was able to rock Klose on the counter, charging forward and finishing him with a beautiful left-handed knockout.

The rather composed Dariush got uncharacteristically reckless, but there was a reason for that. When accepting his UFC Honors 2020 “Comeback of the Year” trophy, Dariush couldn’t hold back his tears, explaining how he had to battle through adversity prior to the fight.

In the moment, he recalled being inspired by his family and explained how they helped him pull through and battle back.

Dariush returns Saturday when he rematches Diego Ferreira on the main card of UFC Fight Night 184. Their first meeting took place more than six years ago. In that fight, Dariush got the best of Ferreira with a unanimous decision at UFC 179.
