Defining Fights: UFC 258 headliner Gilbert Burns

After two prior bookings fell through, Gilbert Burns will finally get his long-awaited shot at UFC gold when he returns to the octagon on Saturday night.

Burns (19-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) will take on reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 258, which takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event streams live on pay-per-view on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.

The opportunity sees the Brazilian look to continue his unbeaten streak since moving up from lightweight to welterweight. Burns has gone 4-0 at 170 pounds, including key wins over Alexey Kunchenko, Gunnar Nelson, Demian Maia and, most recently, former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

Now Burns is looking to capture championship gold by dethroning his former training partner Usman (17-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC) in the biggest fight of his career.

Ahead of their main event clash, let’s take a look back at the four key fights that have defined Burns’ UFC welterweight career to date.
