Aspen Ladd’s troubling weigh-in leads to UFC Fight Night 193 bout cancellation

LAS VEGAS – Aspen Ladd had another concerning trip to the scale at UFC Fight Night 193 official weigh-ins, which will extend her career-long layoff.

Ladd (9-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who has been part of some disturbing weigh-in scenes before, came in heavy for her women’s bantamweight fight with Macy Chiasson (7-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC). As a result, the fight was pulled from Saturday’s card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

At first, Ladd walked to the scale fully clothed to check her weight. She was 141.5 pounds, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission, then she stripped down for her official attempt.

UFC officials brought out the wall to block Ladd while she stripped naked, but registering her weight was no easy feat. Ladd was shaking all over and could not remain still enough to get an official weight. She was then asked to step off the scale, where she stood idle until towels were brought in.

Following some bizarre commotion and multiple people around her, Ladd got back on the scale. She kept on shaking and struggled to control herself until she finally got her weight read. She was officially 137 pounds, still one pound over the non-title limit.

Ladd and Chiasson were originally scheduled to fight in July, but Chiasson withdraw just before weigh-ins due to a foot injury. Chiasson took exception to Ladd’s criticism over the original cancellation and let that be known during this fight week.

Ladd hasn’t fought since December 2019, a TKO win over Yana Kunitskaya at UFC on ESPN 7.
