Marlon Vera challenges Jose Aldo to rematch: ‘Be a man and take a 5 rounder with me’

Marlon Vera wants to run things back with Jose Aldo.

Vera (20-7-1 MMA, 12-6 UFC) lost a unanimous decision to Aldo (31-7 MMA, 13-6 UFC) in a three-round fight last December at UFC Fight Night 183, a bout in which Vera won Round 2 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Since then, “Chito” avenged his loss by beating Davey Grant, followed by a highlight-reel “Performance of the Night” knockout of former champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 268. After Aldo’s impressive win over Rob Font this past Saturday at UFC on ESPN 31, Vera called him out – this time for a headliner fight.

Let’s do it again @josealdojunior,” Vera wrote on Twitter, “be a man and take a 5 rounder with me.”

Aldo has different ideas. Currently enjoying a career resurgence with three consecutive wins over Vera, Pedro Munhoz and Font, the former UFC featherweight champion is eyeing a bout with former two-time UFC bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw in hopes of securing a second shot at 135-pound gold.

Vera, who’s finish of Edgar set a new record for most stoppage victories in UFC bantamweight history with nine, is currently ranked No. 11 in the division with notable wins over Sean O’Malley, Grant and Edgar.
