LAS VEGAS – Natan Levy learned a big lesson in his UFC debut and put that into action Saturday.
Levy wanted to show off his power against Rafa Garcia this past November. And while the average observer would say Levy is positively ripped for a 155-pounder, he said he had to figure out after his decision loss that showcasing his heavy hands might not always be the path to victory.
At UFC on ESPN 35, Levy (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Mike Breeden (10-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) for his first win in the promotion. And though he slowed down in the third round after looking for finishes in the first two frames, he still thinks he brought the lesson from the Garcia fight into the Breeden bout.
“I wasn’t overzealous like I was in the Rafa fight – that’s a lesson I learned, trying to throw bombs all the time and show how powerful I am,” Levy said at his post-fight news conference at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, where the Israeli fighter now trains. “I don’t need that to win a fight. I’m very technical. I’m sharp. I’m fast. I think I can win a fight in any way, shape or form.”
Levy said after the fight he plans to auction off his fight kit to raise money for a Holocaust survivors charity.
