Battery Charge Dismissed In Favor Of Cash Bond

It was the shot heard ‘round the world omelet station.

Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) manager, Ali Abdelaziz, was charged with misdemeanor battery for his role in the Las Vegas buffet brawl that included his client and current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, back in March.

The victim? None other than bitter rival and division No. 1 contender, Colby Covington.

That charge was dismissed earlier this week in favor of a $1000 cash bond, according to MMA Fighting, though Abdelaziz still has a second battery charge to contend with in the wake of his October fisticuffs under the Professional Fighters League (PFL) banner.

A similar outcome is expected in that case, as well.

Usman will defend his 170-pound title against “Chaos” in the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) headliner next month in Las Vegas, Nevada, a five-round grudge match that is one of three scheduled title fights (see the remaining two here).

Let’s just hope “The Nigerian Nightmare” and his manager can avoid another situation like this between now and then.
